What the Queen Is
The Queen is the largest ARC in the game and one of two boss-class units (the other is the entity:matriarch). She walks like a fortress on four armored legs and carries lasers and mortars that can wipe an unprepared squad in seconds. She only spawns under the Harvester map condition, which means most raids will not see her. When she does spawn, she carries the highest loot tier in the game: unique blueprints, Raider Hatch keys, top-tier materials, and currency rolls that beat anything you can pull off a Stella Montis run.
Soloing the Queen is possible but not advisable. The squad version is a 5 to 8 minute fight if everyone plays their role; the solo version is a 20 minute fight where one mistake kills you, you lose the Queen Reactor and your gear, and another lobby rat picks up the kill from your downed body.
How to Find Her
The Queen spawns under the Harvester map condition only. The condition rotates through Spaceport and Dam Battlegrounds primarily. When the Harvester icon shows on the lobby screen, plan the run around her. Outside the Harvester rotation, she does not spawn anywhere.
Once you load in, listen for the heavy footfalls and the laser-charge audio cue. The Queen patrols a fixed path around the map's central zone; she does not chase you across the entire map until she has line of sight.
Phase Breakdown
The Queen fight has three phases, each gated by armor-plate destruction and the red-core exposure window.
Phase 1: opening salvo
She opens with laser sweeps and mortar volleys. Survive the first 10 seconds. Stay behind hard cover (concrete, building corners, vehicle frames) because mortars splash and lasers track. Soft cover (fences, foliage) does not block the laser. The opening is not the kill window; it is the survival check.
Phase 2: armor strip
Every Queen carries armored plates over her body and red glowing core. Each plate must be destroyed before the underlying weak point is exposed. Yellow leg joints are secondary weak points that stagger her when hit, which buys the squad rotation time.
The item:hullcracker launcher is the optimized plate-stripping weapon. Three to four shots peels a plate cleanly. item:bettina and item:ferro also work but take longer per plate. Coordinate fire on a single plate at a time; spreading damage across multiple plates wastes ammo.
Phase 3: red core exposure
When all plates are stripped, the red glowing core opens. This is the kill window. Sustained Heavy or Energy fire ends the fight. The item:jupiter Energy sniper is the highest single-shot damage in the game against the core. The item:bettina dumps 22 rounds of Heavy ammo in the same window and finishes a plate-stripped Queen reliably.
Watch the laser-charge animation. If she is mid-charge, hide. If she is recovering, push damage on the core.
Recommended Squad Loadout
The ARC Raiders Boss Hunter Build Guide carries the full template. The short version for Queen specifically:
- Augment: item:combat-mk3-aggressive or item:tactical-mk3-defensive. Aggressive gives you the regen between phases; Defensive gives the squad the shield-recharger uptime.
- Shield: Heavy. Mortar splash and laser sweeps do enough damage that a Light shield is a death sentence. The movement penalty matters less than the survival ceiling.
- Primary: item:hullcracker for plate stripping. Run two squad members on Hullcrackers if your loadout budget allows; one on plates, one on Rocketeer cleanup.
- Secondary: item:jupiter for the red-core punish. item:bettina is a viable alternative for sustained Heavy ammo damage.
- Quick-use: item:bandage x2, item:shield-recharger x2, item:vita-spray x1. Drop one bandage for a item:wolfpack if your squad has a dedicated medic on Tactical Mk. 3 Healing.
- Skills: Used to the Weight (Conditioning) so the Heavy shield does not crater your movement, Marathon Runner for sprint stamina, Loaded Arms for the Hullcracker reload speed, plus the Survival nodes that suit your role.
Solo Queen Strategy (Not Recommended)
If you must solo the Queen because the squad ghosted you and the Harvester rotation is ending, run the ARC Raiders Solo Stealth Build Guide loadout with item:looting-mk3-survivor. Use the 80 weight ceiling to carry item:hullcracker plus item:jupiter plus item:photoelectric-cloak for repositioning between phases. Plan a 20-minute fight. Take cover after every plate strip; do not greed the kill window. Pre-place a item:snap-hook for the panic exit if a lobby rat shows up to claim the kill.
The win condition for solo Queen is patience. You will get her down. The risk is the rats who hear the laser audio from across the map and converge on the kill site.
Loot Notes
The Queen drops the highest-tier loot in the game. The headline drops:
- Queen Reactor: required for Trophy Display Project Stage 4. Three needed for the stage.
- Unique blueprints: Hullcracker, Jupiter, and Aphelion variants drop here.
- Raider Hatch keys: rare drops that open Workshop hidden caches.
- Top-tier materials: ARC Performance Steel, Synthetic Resin, and Magnetic Accelerator at increased rates.
Plan the extract. The Queen kill draws every Raider in the lobby. The shortest extract route from your kill site is the safest answer. Burn a item:smoke-grenade on the extract approach if you hear footsteps.
FAQ
How do I find the Queen in ARC Raiders?
The Queen only spawns under the Harvester map condition. Check the lobby screen before queuing. She rotates through Spaceport and Dam Battlegrounds primarily. Outside the Harvester rotation, she does not spawn.
Can I solo the Queen?
Possible but not recommended. The fight runs long, mortars and lasers punish single-Raider mistakes, and lobby rats converge on the kill site. If you must solo, run the ARC Raiders Solo Stealth Build Guide loadout with item:hullcracker plus item:jupiter and plan a 20 minute fight.
What is the best weapon against the Queen?
item:hullcracker for plate stripping (three to four shots per plate). item:jupiter for the red-core kill window (Energy ammo, highest single-shot damage). The combination clears the fight in the shortest window.
What loot does the Queen drop?
Queen Reactor (Trophy Display Project Stage 4 component), Hullcracker and Jupiter blueprints, Raider Hatch keys, ARC Performance Steel, Synthetic Resin, Magnetic Accelerator at increased rates, plus a top-tier currency roll.
How is the Queen different from the Matriarch?
The Queen uses lasers and mortars; the entity:matriarch uses homing missiles that track around cover. The Queen is the longer-range threat that rewards heavy cover positioning; the Matriarch is the close-range threat that punishes static play. See the ARC Raiders Matriarch Boss Guide for that fight.
