Hades II Best Builds (Post-Launch Patch 2)
Eight named builds carry the post-1.0 meta, and picking the right one comes down to which Fear ceiling you plan to clear. This page lists each build, what it does, and who it suits, so you can lock a weapon and aspect in under thirty seconds.
TL;DR: The 8 Meta Builds
The Medea Skull Speed-Crit holds the unseeded 67-Fear world record and the speedrun crown. The Charon Axe Omega-Cast Launcher is the strongest stationary-boss DPS at 50 Fear. The Circe Staff Always-Be-Casting is the safest 32-Fear clear. The Anubis Staff Zoning Fields is the lowest-APM aspect for 50+ Fear marathons. The Moros Flames Ghost-Detonation has the highest room-clear burst, the Nyx Coat Nightspawn has the fastest wave-clear, the Nergal Axe Berserker is the only self-sustain pick, and the Melinoe Staff Balanced All-Rounder is the recommended first 32-Fear weapon for any new high-fear run.
Choosing a Build
Hades II builds optimize across five axes: weapon (one of six Nocturnal Arms), aspect (one of four per weapon, including a Hidden Aspect), item:origination and the rest of your Major Arcana grid loadout, your keepsake rotation across biomes, and your boon priority list. Locking a weapon and aspect first sets the tempo of the run; the arcana grid sets your stat backbone; keepsakes steer your god rolls; the boon priority list converts those rolls into damage.
Fear ceiling matters too. 32 Fear is the standard high-difficulty entry point and the threshold most build guides target. 50 Fear is the push range where consistency starts to outweigh burst. 67 Fear is the unseeded world record ceiling on the Medea Skull. Match the build to the ceiling you actually want to clear, not the one you read about.
The Build Tier
Medea Skull Speed-Crit, 67 Fear
Weapon and Aspect: item:argent-skull (Revaal) plus item:aspect-of-medea Best for: speedruns and the highest unseeded Fear pushes.
The 90% bonus to attack and special damage is baked into the aspect's base passive, so any boon stack scales on top of it. The Special doubles as evasion, letting you graze hitboxes for damage while dodging telegraphs. Cloud Bangle into Engraved Pin into Gorgon Amulet covers the keepsake rotation; the spine of the build runs item:the-furies, item:persistence, item:the-messenger, item:death, item:the-centaur, Origination, and item:the-fates across the arcana grid. Pick this if you want the highest documented damage ceiling and you can read enemy tells under pressure.
Charon Axe Omega-Cast Launcher, 50 Fear
Weapon and Aspect: item:moonstone-axe (Zorephet) plus item:aspect-of-charon Best for: stationary-boss DPS and Chronos pushes.
Pin enemies with the cast, then charge an omega-special at the location to spawn three 300-radius shockwaves dealing 600+ combined damage. Apollo's Lucid Gain funds infinite repeat omega-casts; Chronos phase two dies in roughly 80% of baseline aspect time. Harmonic Photon locks Apollo first, then item:iridescent-fan takes over for the cast tuning. Sworn Flourish or Nova Flourish on the special, Tidal Ring or Solar Ring on the cast, and Geyser Spout for area damage form the boon spine. Slow base swings demand patience on packed waves; the omega-cast launcher pays you back on every boss room.
Circe Staff Always-Be-Casting, 32+ Fear
Weapon and Aspect: item:witch-staff (Descura) plus item:aspect-of-circe Best for: the safest 32-Fear clear at long range.
Spam omega-casts to drop 200-400 damage homing orbs into every room. Attacks and specials become status-proc tools and repositioning options, never your primary damage. Beautiful Mirror starts you with magick regen; Adamant Shard and Engraved Pin pick up the rotation. Storm Ring on Zeus, Smolder Ring on Hestia, and Psychic Leash for the 50% magick refund hold the run together. The trade-off: this build is magick-hungry and dies after thirty seconds without a Gain source. Skip it on Chronos phase one and Eris, who never stop moving.
Anubis Staff Zoning Fields, 50+ Fear
Weapon and Aspect: Witch's Staff (Descura) plus item:aspect-of-anubis Best for: low-APM 50+ Fear marathons.
Place persistent 30 DPS damage fields with every attack and special, then drag and reposition them with the special. Enemies take continuous damage walking through the zones while you focus on dodging. Adamant Shard starts; Iridescent Fan, Engraved Pin, and Calling Card cover the swap rotation. Heaven Strike or Flame Strike on a 50% on-hit cadence carries the damage; Hera flat-damage globals and Heaven Flourish on the special clean up the rest. Pick this for runs that want to outlast the timer rather than race it.
Moros Flames Ghost-Detonation, 32 Fear
Weapon and Aspect: item:umbral-flames (Ygnium) plus item:aspect-of-moros Best for: highest room-clear burst in the post-1.0 meta.
Charge an omega-special into a pack across a three-second channel covering 400% AoE, then mash attack to trigger five to ten stored ghost hits. Burst peaks at 1000+ DPS on packed rooms. Beautiful Mirror or Vivid Sea opens; Adamant Shard, Calling Card, and Engraved Pin handle the rotation. Aphrodite percentage damage, Apollo Pierce, and Ares Doom (which multi-procs on every ghost detonation) form the boon spine. The build demands roughly 30% magick cost reduction; whiffed omega-specials kill the run.
Nyx Coat Nightspawn Wave-Clear, 32 Fear
Weapon and Aspect: item:black-coat (Xinth) plus item:aspect-of-nyx Best for: the fastest wave-heavy clears in the game.
Sprint between packs to build Omega Boost; specials and attacks split and bounce, with the Nightspawn mirroring damage for 2x effective output. Rooms clear before enemies finish their first wind-up animation. Cloud Bangle starts; Iridescent Fan, Engraved Pin, and Adamant Shard cover the rotation. Wave Strike plus Flame Strike (both proc on hits AND on duplicates), Hephaestus damage reduction, and Hera Hitch carry the boon list. Boss damage trails Medea and Charon; pick this for wave-heavy fear vows and a different aspect for Chronos pushes.
Nergal Axe Berserker, 32+ Fear
Weapon and Aspect: Moonstone Axe (Zorephet) plus item:aspect-of-nergal Best for: vows that punish frequent dodging.
Build Berserk stacks via omega-attack windups, face-tank damage, and heal back roughly 50 HP per second at rank 5. Apollo Nova Strike and Hephaestus Volcanic Strike both shine; Hera Hitch and Aphrodite globals close out the boon priority. Adamant Shard, Harmonic Photon, and Engraved Pin handle keepsakes. The arcana spine pulls Persistence, The Centaur, Death, and Strength to keep the lifesteal floor steady. Pick this for Vow of Forfeit and any vow combination that taxes positional play; the aspect lets you trade HP for damage windows.
Melinoe Staff Balanced All-Rounder, 32 Fear
Weapon and Aspect: Witch's Staff (Descura) plus item:aspect-of-melinoe-witch-staff Best for: your first 32-Fear push of any patch.
Fast strike strings, omega-moves for space control, and wide hitboxes that stun multiple enemies. The aspect's value is its lack of restriction. Whatever Olympians the run rolls, Zeus, Hera, or Aphrodite, all click. Cloud Bangle leads keepsakes; the arcana grid takes Persistence, Swift Runner, Death, and Origination as a default. Lock magick gain in the second biome with Lucid Gain or Born Gain, ensure two curses for Origination, and take the strongest Olympian offered. Use this aspect on the run after a tier list change to test which boon roster the new patch favors.
What Drives the Rankings
High-Fear runs weight damage ceiling and crowd-control consistency. Burst aspects (Medea, Moros, Charon) front-load damage into 1-3 second windows and hold every speedrun record, but they ask for clean execution every fight. Consistency aspects (Anubis, Melinoe staff) trade ceiling for floor and own the 50+ Fear marathons that demand sustainable damage over a 25-minute clear. Sub-50-Fear pushes weight accessibility and clear time instead, which is why the Witch's Staff carries three of the recommended entry-level builds. The boon-scaling rule cuts both directions: slow-heavy weapons (axe, skull) want percentage damage, while fast chip-damage weapons (blades, flames) want flat damage like Zeus Blitz and Hestia Scorch.
