Tainted Grail: When Gods Speak Quest Guide and the Frail Choice
When Gods Speak is a Cuanacht side quest about a man driven mad by a voice in a temple, and the voice turns out to be a person. Helmi's husband Tyge lost his mind after repeated trips to the Mathair Temple. You investigate, track down a tribal outcast named Frail near the temple, and learn she was the one whispering to Tyge. Then you decide whether to spare her or kill her. Either way Tyge's name is cleared and Helmi rewards you with around 2,800 XP. The only thing the choice changes is whether Frail can later be chosen as a Matron candidate.
Here is the full quest and what each option means down the line.
Helmi and Tyge
Helmi's husband Tyge went mad after going back to the Mathair Temple again and again. Something at the temple got into his head, and Helmi wants to know what happened to him. The quest starts with her, and clearing it is what restores Tyge's reputation, since right now he is remembered as a man who simply lost his mind for no reason.
Find Frail near the temple
Investigate the Mathair Temple and follow the trail to Frail, a tribal outcast you find along a snowy rock path near the temple. The path is exposed and cold, so come prepared if your build leans on stamina or movement that the terrain might slow. When you confront her, she admits the truth: she was the one speaking to Tyge. The voice that drove him mad was hers, whispered to a man who thought he was hearing a god. That confession is the heart of the quest and what gives you grounds to clear Tyge's name. Tyge did not lose his mind to nothing. He lost it to a person who chose to break him, and that distinction is what the whole quest turns on.
Spare or kill Frail
Now the choice. You can spare Frail or kill her, and Tyge's name is cleared in either case. Helmi rewards you the same way no matter what you decide, roughly 2,800 XP for bringing the truth back to her.
The difference is downstream. Spare Frail and she survives, which keeps her available as a future Matron candidate. Kill Frail and Tyge is still cleared and you still get the reward, but Frail is gone from the Matron candidate pool, leaving only Helmi in the running. That is the entire forward consequence of the choice: who can stand as Matron later.
What the Matron candidate pool means
The Matron candidate pool is the thread When Gods Speak feeds into. Cuanacht's tribes choose a new Matron later, and the candidates available to you depend on who is still alive when that decision comes. Spare Frail and you reach the Matron choice with two names on the table, Frail and Helmi, which gives you room to weigh one against the other when the time comes. Kill Frail and you arrive at that decision with Helmi as the only option, the choice already made for you by your hand at the temple. Nothing else in the quest changes based on this call. The reward is identical, Tyge is cleared either way, and Cuanacht does not otherwise react. The whole weight of the decision sits in that future candidate list.
Which to choose
If you want options open for the Matron decision down the road, spare Frail and keep both her and Helmi as candidates. If you would rather see Frail answer for driving Tyge to madness, kill her and accept that Helmi becomes the only Matron candidate left. Neither choice costs you the quest reward, so this one comes down to how you want the Matron line to play out and how you feel about the woman who broke Tyge. There is a clean argument for sparing her purely to keep your later options open, and an equally clean argument for killing her if you would rather not hand a future leadership role to someone who drove an innocent man insane.
