Unidentified Ruins Puzzle Solution
The Unidentified Ruins sit in the Latotian's Passage system during Chapter 2, on a dead world. You open the puzzle after a Demolition or Athletics check by activating the central pedestal, then passing a Lore (Warp) check on the large Eastern Pillar, which throws a beam of light across the chamber. From there the whole thing is a redirection sequence: touch each pillar the right number of times and the beam walks around the room until it reaches the statue.
Main Solution (Ancient Force Sword)
This is the sequence you want on a first run. Each pillar is touched twice, and the beam hands off in a fixed loop:
- Touch the Eastern Pillar twice. The beam moves to the South-Western pillar.
- Touch the South-Western pillar twice. The beam moves to the Northern pillar.
- Touch the Northern pillar twice. The beam moves to the Southern pillar.
- Touch the Southern pillar twice. The beam moves to the North-Western pillar.
- Touch the North-Western pillar twice. The beam moves back to the Eastern pillar.
Once that last redirect lands, the beam reaches the statue and unlocks the secret chest. The reward is an Ancient Force Sword, a strong melee pickup for this point in the game.
Optional Solution (Xenochest Path)
There is a second sequence, and it only opens up after you place the Cracked Xenochest in the statue's jaws. The touch counts change here, so do not reuse the main pattern:
- Touch the Eastern Pillar three times. The beam moves to the North-Western pillar.
- Touch the North-Western pillar once. The beam moves to the Northern pillar.
- Touch the Northern pillar twice. The beam moves to the Southern pillar.
- Touch the Southern pillar once. The beam moves to the South-Western pillar.
- Touch the South-Western pillar three times. The beam moves back to the Eastern pillar.
Completing this version drops the Chains of Domination and the Foulsight Veil, then triggers a fight against a pack of Pink Horrors backed by a Screamer. Bring the party in ready for a daemon scrap before you finish the final touch, because the encounter starts the moment the beam connects.
Quick Reference
For the Ancient Force Sword, the touch pattern reads as two-two-two-two-two starting from the Eastern Pillar and rotating East to South-West to North to South to North-West. For the Xenochest rewards, the pattern is three-one-two-one-three starting from the Eastern Pillar and rotating East to North-West to North to South to South-West. Stand clear of the statue until you have committed to one path; the optional fight is the only hard gate in the room.
