Hades II Romance, Nectar, and Gift Guide (Post-Launch Patch 2)
Bond progression in Hades II runs on a four-tier gift economy. Melinoe earns drinks, salts, lures, and Ambrosia from chamber drops or the Cauldron, and hands them to Crossroads characters between runs. Each gift unlocks new dialogue, deeper story beats, and (for romance routes) the pursuit scenes added in Post-Launch Patch 2 on 14 April 2026. That patch reshaped the back half of the bond curve with two systems: Going Steady, which lets bonded characters circle back for follow-up romantic dialogue, and Forever Gifting, which keeps the gift loop alive after every prophecy slot is filled.
TL;DR
Nectar is the entry-tier gift everyone accepts; once a character is full on Nectar they require Bath Salts, then Twin Lures, then Ambrosia to keep climbing the bond ladder. Post-Launch Patch 2's Forever Gifting lets you keep handing Bath Salts, Twin Lures, or Ambrosia to bonded characters indefinitely, and Going Steady triggers fresh romantic interest from characters Melinoe has pursued. Several Fated Prophecies covering the Odysseus and Arachne arcs gained new narrated conclusion scenes in the same patch, replayable from the Fated List. Bonded relationships also feed into the True Ending Epilogue that shipped with the 1.0 launch, so the gift loop is the thread that ties social progression to the canon ending.
The Gift Items
Nectar
Nectar is the foundational bond gift carried over from the first Hades. It drops from chamber clears, shows up in Wells of Charon, and can be brewed at the Cauldron once the right Incantation is cast. Every named character at the Crossroads accepts Nectar, including the gods who hand out boons mid-run. The first gift to a new character is always free; further gifts require you to hold one in your inventory at the start of the run or hand it over between runs.
Each character takes a fixed number of Nectars before the conversation tapers off and the next gift tier is required to keep climbing. Spend Nectar early on the characters you actually want a deeper bond with, since drops are slow in the first ten runs and the Crossroads roster is large. Hand it to a character whose keepsake you plan to use anyway and the bond level rises faster, because paired-keepsake encounters during a run also push the bond meter.
Bath Salts
Bath Salts sit one tier above Nectar and gate the middle stretch of the bond track. Once a character has accepted their full Nectar count, the dialogue prompt shifts and they ask for something stronger. Bath Salts come from later-region drops and Cauldron Incantations, and they tend to land on the Surface side of the run economy more often than the Underworld side.
Forever Gifting from Post-Launch Patch 2 changed how Bath Salts behave once a character is fully bonded. Before the patch, a character who hit their bond cap would stop accepting gifts entirely. After the patch, most Crossroads characters keep taking Bath Salts forever, with a brief new scene each time you hand one over. The scenes are short, but they keep the relationship feeling active rather than locked behind a cap.
Twin Lures
Twin Lures are the third gift tier and the one most directly tied to the romance system. Post-Launch Patch 2 added Twin Lures to the Forever Gifting pool alongside Bath Salts and Ambrosia, so they pull double duty: they push the bond meter for characters still climbing toward the cap, and they trigger optional romantic follow-up scenes for characters Melinoe has already taken a route with.
Twin Lures are scarcer than Bath Salts. Plan your spend. Hand them to the characters whose Going Steady scenes you actually want to see rather than scattering them across the whole roster.
Ambrosia
Ambrosia is the top-tier bond gift and the requirement for Companion-tier progression. A character who has been walked through Nectar, Bath Salts, and Twin Lures still needs Ambrosia to fully close out their bond track, and the Shimmering Ambrosia Incantation added at v1.0 makes brewing it at the Cauldron more reliable than waiting for chamber drops.
Like Bath Salts and Twin Lures, Ambrosia is now part of the Forever Gifting loop. Characters who have already received their cap will keep taking Ambrosia in brief follow-up scenes, which means the late-game bond economy never goes dead.
Going Steady (Post-Launch Patch 2)
Going Steady is the romance follow-up layer added on 14 April 2026. Characters Melinoe has romanced may, on later visits to the Crossroads, show fresh interest in continuing the relationship rather than treating the romance scene as a one-and-done story beat. The triggering thresholds are tied to bond level and to specific story progression flags rather than a flat counter, so the prompts surface naturally as you push deeper into the run loop.
The dialogue trees opened up by Going Steady include conclusion scenes that get filed into the Fated List once seen, which means you can replay them from the menu without restarting the save. This pairs cleanly with the True Ending Epilogue: the Going Steady scenes layer extra context onto the Epilogue's bonded-character appearances rather than replacing them.
Forever Gifting (Post-Launch Patch 2)
Forever Gifting is the second half of the Post-Launch Patch 2 romance pass. Most Crossroads characters now accept Bath Salts, Twin Lures, or Ambrosia indefinitely after their main bond track is complete, with a short new scene each time. The gifts no longer push a meter, but they keep the relationship visible in the Codex and in the Crossroads ambient dialogue.
The same patch reworked several Fated Prophecies tied to bonded relationships. The Odysseus and Arachne arcs both received new narrated conclusion scenes that play once their prophecies are fulfilled, and the Fated List lets you replay them from the menu. Denier of Suitors and Original Virtues had their fulfillment requirements reduced in the same patch, which lowers the grind on two of the most frequent romance-adjacent prophecies.
How to Maximize Bond Progression Per Run
Pick the keepsake of the character you want to deepen. Bond level rises with paired-keepsake encounters during a run, so a single full clear with the right keepsake equipped can move the needle as much as several gift handovers. Spend Nectar on characters whose keepsakes you actually use in your current build, then graduate them to Bath Salts and Twin Lures once the prompt shifts.
Revisit the Crossroads after major story beats, including True Ending milestones. New dialogue branches open up at specific clear flags rather than at run counts, so a character who had nothing to say last visit will often have a fresh prompt waiting after a Chronos clear or a Surface clear. Save Ambrosia for the final stretch of each character's bond track, since it is the slowest tier to brew.
Connection to the True Ending
Bonded characters appear in the True Ending Epilogue that shipped with v1.0 on 25 September 2025, and Forever Gifting from Post-Launch Patch 2 unlocks additional Epilogue dialogue tied to those same bonds. The romance routes are not strictly required to view the True Ending, but they fold into the Epilogue's character beats and round out the emotional payoff of the prophecy completions.
