Hades II Endgame Guide -- Testaments, Oath of the Unseen, True Ending (Post-Launch Patch 2)

Hades II's endgame is a stack, not a single mode. Your first Chronos kill turns on the Oath of the Unseen, the post-victory Vow-pledging system that sets your difficulty by Fear total. Pledged Vows raise that total. Testament tiers gate behind 32-Fear thresholds and drop aspect-specific Nightmare materials when cleared. The True Ending arc layers on top, requiring victories on both the Underworld descent and the Surface ascent before Princess Melinoe's journey resolves. Post-Launch Patch 1 added events around the True Ending and a Cauldron incantation that lets you re-experience the conclusion without grinding the path back from scratch.

TL;DR

The Oath of the Unseen unlocks first, after your first Chronos win. Pledging Vows on the altar raises Fear, the difficulty score that gates Testament tiers. Testaments are aspect-specific challenges, four per weapon, and the higher tiers demand 32+ Fear. The True Ending requires both a Chronos clear (Underworld) and an Olympus summit clear (Surface), with specific Vow conditions documented in the v1.0 patch. Post-Launch Patch 1's "Returning to a Real Possibility" Cauldron incantation lets you replay the True Ending sequence without restarting your path from a fresh save.

The Oath of the Unseen

The Oath unlocks the moment Chronos drops for the first time. Walk to the altar at the Crossroads, pledge a Vow, and the chosen modifier locks in for the next run. Each Vow has 3 ranks. Each rank adds 1 Fear to the run total. So a Rank 3 Vow of Pain contributes 3 Fear on its own, or three different Rank 1 Vows reach the same number with three separate effects instead of one harsh one.

Sixteen Vows make up the published roster: Pain, Grit, Wards, Frenzy, Hordes, Menace, Return, Fangs, Scars, Debt, Shadow, Forfeit, Time, Void, Hubris, and Denial. Pledging is binding for the run; you cannot drop a Vow mid-run to bail out of a hard modifier. Maximum reachable Fear with the full roster ranked up is around 55, which is the Nightmare-tier ceiling for endgame players chasing top rewards.

The pattern carries directly from Hades 1. Pact of Punishment becomes Oath of the Unseen, Heat becomes Fear, and pact conditions become Vows. Anyone with Heat experience can read the new system without re-learning it.

Testaments

Testaments are aspect-specific challenge runs, four per weapon, one for each Aspect. Each Testament posts a Fear floor required to try it. Beat the Testament at or above that floor and the run drops Nightmare, the resource used for item:aspects rank-ups and high-tier incantations. Each successful clear raises the Fear floor for the next Testament tier on that same weapon-aspect path.

That ratchet is the whole shape of the endgame. Tier 1 might ask for a few Fear; Tier 2 demands more; the top tiers sit at 32+ Fear, and the cap presses past 50 for full completion across every aspect of every weapon. Aspect rewards stack with the Tablet of Peace and Rod of Fishing meta-progression that v1.0 streamlined, so committed Testament chasers see permanent unlocks roll in alongside the Nightmare drops.

The right Aspect makes or breaks a Testament run. Aspect of Charon on Sister Blades, Aspect of Medea on Argent Skull, and Aspect of Anubis on Moonstone Axe are the meta endgame chassis at high Fear because they convert sustained pressure into damage windows the harder Vows close off. The Hidden Aspects added in the Unseen Update are still the highest-ceiling picks once unlocked.

The True Ending

The v1.0 launch on 25 September 2025 shipped the conclusion of Princess Melinoe's journey as a retroactive unlock. Existing saves see the new content the moment they load. Reaching the True Ending requires both a Chronos clear on the Underworld path and a summit clear on the Surface path, the Mount Olympus route gated behind the Permeation of Witching-Wards incantation. Both clears need specific Vow combinations documented in the v1.0 patch notes, and the Surface side feeds into a final boss the descent path never reaches.

Fifty achievements were added at the same time, all retroactively earnable. The True Ending sequence picks up after the standard Chronos resolution and routes through new locations introduced for the arc. Zodiac Sand and Void Lenses were removed from the economy as part of the conclusion, with existing collections converted to Kudos automatically.

Post-Launch Patch 1 shipped on 31 October 2025, five weeks after launch, with the True Ending Enhancements set. The number of Underworld clears required went up. New events were added before and after the True Ending sequence, and the main pre-credits scenes were revised. The Surface route was largely untouched; the Epilogue past the credits stayed the same. The standout addition is "Returning to a Real Possibility," a Cauldron incantation that lets you return to an earlier point in the story to re-experience the True Ending without grinding back through the requirements. This matters most for players who hit the conclusion once, kept playing, and want to revisit the sequence with a different Aspect or higher Fear.

The Epilogue

The v1.0 launch added the Epilogue arc that picks up after the True Ending resolves. Bonded characters tied to the Forever Gifting system, expanded in Post-Launch Patch 2, gain new dialogue lines on the post-conclusion path. Fated Prophecies bound to specific bonded relationships earn narrated wrap-up scenes, and you can replay those scenes from the Fated List once they trigger.

Post-Launch Patch 1 also tightened the Fated Prophecy pacing. Character-related Prophecies, including the one tied directly to the story epilogue, unfold faster than before, so re-rolls and replay sessions reach the post-credits content sooner.

Suggested Endgame Path

Land your first Chronos kill at 0-8 Fear with item:aspect-of-melinoe on whichever weapon clicks for you. Take your first Surface summit at 8-16 Fear with item:aspect-of-circe on the item:witch-staff, since the Smolder Ring buff in Post-Launch Patch 1 makes that pairing the cleanest Olympus chassis. The True Ending path slots in around 16-32 Fear once both routes have a clear under the belt. Drop into Testaments at 32 Fear with the meta builds, item:aspect-of-charon on item:sister-blades, item:aspect-of-anubis on item:moonstone-axe, and item:aspect-of-medea on item:argent-skull. Push past 50 Fear for the Nightmare-tier rewards using the highest-ceiling chassis you have unlocked, which usually means the Hidden Aspects on whichever weapons you've already cleared lower-tier Testaments with.
