Hades II Aspect of Medea Build Guide -- Skull Speed-Crit, Up to 67 Fear (Post-Launch Patch 2)
This is the deep-dive on Argent Skull (Revaal) Aspect of Medea, the speedrun chassis behind HookieDookie's verified 62 Fear clear and the community-reported 67 Fear unseeded ceiling. The whole package is tuned around a sub-12-minute completion target.
TL;DR
Run item:argent-skull with item:aspect-of-medea. The aspect bakes a 90% bonus to Attack and Special damage into its base passive, so every boon you stack scales on top of an already-doubled hit. Lock Hera Attack first, Zeus Special second, layer Heaven Flourish or Blitz, and keep two curse types active so item:origination fires on schedule. The Special doubles as evasion through grazing. HookieDookie has the verified 62 Fear ceiling on this build; the 67 Fear figure is a community-reported unseeded ceiling, not a verified seed.
Why This Build Works
The 90% Attack-and-Special bonus is not a conditional buff. It exists at base, on the aspect itself, before you touch a single boon. That changes the math on every god you meet downstream. A Hera Attack boon that gives +80% damage on a normal weapon multiplies a baseline hit; on Medea, it multiplies a hit that is already 1.9 times normal. Zeus Special funnels Blitz procs through the same multiplier. Three biomes of layered scaling produce per-shot numbers that look like typos.
The Special is the second engine. It lunges, retrieves your shells, and slices through enemy hitboxes without trading damage. Glide a hair past the boss, register the hit, and exit before their swing connects. It functions as evasion and DPS at the same time, which is what frees up the build to skip defensive boons most other aspects need to budget for.
Step-by-Step Rotation
Open biome 1 with Cloud Bangle for utility coverage and roll for Hera. The first decision point is whether Hera shows up on the first door. If she does, take Sworn Strike or any flat Attack modifier and lock the slot. If Hera does not appear, swap to a Hera-locking keepsake on the next biome and force the encounter. Do not waste door rolls on Aphrodite or Apollo before the Attack slot is filled.
Lock Zeus Special second. Heaven Flourish is the headline pick because it converts every graze into a chain proc; Blitz is the fallback when Flourish does not roll. By the end of biome 2 you want both spine slots filled and at least one curse type active.
Three to four biomes of layered scaling come next. By Erebus close, the loadout should look like Hera Attack, Zeus Special with Heaven Flourish or Blitz, two curse types active to feed item:origination, and Static Shock to break armor. Biome 4 and 5 push toward Snow Queen, Double Strike, Arctic Ring, and Grisly Gain. The boss approach for every fight from Erebus onward is the same. Drop a Cast trap on the floor, throw the Skull through the boss to detonate, graze the hitbox using Special as evasion, and never trade. Time the item:the-messenger invuln window when the character flashes red after a cast; the flash is your cue, not the sound.
Arcana Loadout
Run a 13-card spread: item:the-furies, item:persistence, item:the-messenger, item:the-swift-runner, item:death, item:the-centaur, item:origination, item:the-lovers, item:the-enchantress, item:the-queen, item:the-fates, item:the-champions, and item:divinity.
The Furies feed crit chance on a build that already crits hard through Hera. Persistence is the room-clear cushion. The Messenger gives invuln on Cast, which is the single most important defensive layer when a 67 Fear run leaves you no margin. The Swift Runner reduces the time spent in danger, which compounds with the Special grazing. Death covers a single missed graze without ending the run. The Centaur softens chip damage between graze cycles. Origination is mandatory; with two curse types active, the Punished band fires at full power and adds a multiplier the rest of the build is balanced against. The Lovers and The Enchantress feed boon rolls. The Queen, The Fates, The Champions, and Divinity round out the percentage scaling and rare-boon density. None of these slots are flex; the build is balanced around the full 13.
Keepsake Rotation by Biome
Cloud Bangle on the first biome covers utility while you are still rolling for Hera. item:engraved-pin goes on twice, biomes 2 and 3, to push crit chance into the boss pulls. Gorgon Amulet covers the late biomes for resistance, when curse stacks are at their highest and incoming damage is the only real threat to a clean clear. Familiar slot is item:toula for the run.
Hammer Picks
Volatile Array always, first offer. It is the single biggest damage multiplier on the Skull and it stacks correctly with the aspect's base passive. Colossus Driver second when offered, for the AoE bump on packed rooms. Skip lunge-modifying hammers without exception; they break the graze timing on Special, which kills the entire evasion layer. Skip AoE-shrinking hammers; they slow clear time and push you over the 12-minute target.
Boss-Specific Tips
Chronos phase 2 is the highest-value Skull target in the run. His hitbox is large, his armor breaks fast under Static Shock, and his attack windows are long enough to drop a full Cast plus Skull combo without trading. Open every Chronos phase 2 with the Cast trap on the floor at his feet, then graze through his swing arc on Special.
Eris is the cleanest grazing target in the underworld. Her dash hitboxes are wide and predictable, which means every Special pass through her is free damage. Stay at mid range, bait the dash, graze on the exit. Do not chase her between dashes; let her come to you.
Typhon punishes range, so close the gap. Stay close enough to bait the swing, dash through the swing on the inside, and Special-graze the back arc. The closer you are, the shorter his recovery, which gives you more graze cycles per minute.
Common Mistakes
The biggest one is running only one curse type. Origination's Punished band needs two curse types to fire correctly, and a single curse leaves a 30-40% damage shortfall the rest of the build cannot cover. Audit your boon list every biome.
The second is trading on Special instead of grazing. The Special is not a melee combo; it is a graze move. If you are taking damage on Special exits, you are dashing too late or aiming through the center of the hitbox instead of the edge.
The third is missing the Messenger window. The invuln fires on Cast, but only when the character flashes red after the throw. New pilots watch for the audio cue and dash too early. Watch the model, not the sound.
