Hades II Aspect of Charon Build Guide -- Axe Omega-Cast Launcher (Post-Launch Patch 2)
The item:aspect-of-charon on the item:moonstone-axe (Zorephet) is the strongest stationary-boss DPS chassis in the post-1.0 meta. Pin a target with the Cast, charge an Omega Special on top of the trap, and three 300-radius shockwaves stack into 600+ combined damage in a single window. DTB-verified at 50 Fear; this is the S-tier pick the wiki ships per the verified-clear evidence.
TL;DR
Weapon: Moonstone Axe (Zorephet). Aspect: Aspect of Charon. Apollo's Lucid Gain is the mandatory first boon; the omega-cast loop runs forever once you lock it. Every stationary boss falls in under 15 seconds of stable footing. Chronos phase 2 dies in roughly 80% of the time a generic axe aspect needs.
Why This Build Works
Aspect of Charon extends Cast duration and triggers an eruption when an Omega Special hits a Cast-trapped foe. With the Giga Cleaver hammer's dual-omega chain, one channel lays down three 300-radius shockwaves on the same pinned target. Each wave hits for 200+ on a base-rarity setup; rare and epic Hades boons push the stack past 600 in one rotation. The damage isn't theoretical. DTB clears 50 Fear with this exact chassis, and the runner consensus on r/Hades2 puts the aspect in S-tier on the strength of those clears.
Apollo's Lucid Gain returns 40 Magick per 30 spent at base rarity. That is a net surplus of 10 per cycle, which means the cast-detonate loop pays for itself with no fishing for green flasks between rooms. Stack a second Apollo gain source by biome 3 and the loop becomes infinite even through Polyphemus's enrage timer. The build's weakness is honest: slow base swings handle packed waves badly, the cast does not pin moving targets cleanly, and you trade burst for setup time. On stationary bosses, none of that matters. On wave-clear vow stages it does, which is why this aspect is a boss-push pick rather than an all-purpose chassis.
Step-by-Step Rotation
Biome 1: equip Harmonic Photon at the Crossroads to lock Apollo as your first god encounter. The first Apollo offer must include Lucid Gain; reroll with a Fated Persuasion if it isn't on the menu, or swap to a fishing keepsake and re-trigger Apollo through a different door. This is the run's entire first-biome objective.
Biomes 2 through 4: take Sworn Flourish or Nova Flourish on the Special, Tidal Ring or Solar Ring on the Cast. Layer the supporting boons that scale the launcher: Geyser Spout for splash on the Cast, Local Climate for sustained AoE inside the Cast radius, Cinerary Circle to convert burn ticks into death procs, Racing Thoughts for omega cooldown, and Shadow Pounce as a rare-tier upgrade target. Pivot the item:engraved-pin across two rooms once the core boons are in place.
Boss approach: drop the Cast as a tether-trap, never as damage. Charge the Omega Special on top of it. Three shockwaves resolve, the boss takes 600+, you reposition while Lucid Gain refunds the magick. Repeat. Tether the boss, charge, blast, reset, and reposition. Polyphemus, Typhon, and Chronos phase 2 all collapse to this rhythm.
Arcana Loadout
Fourteen-card spread: item:the-sorceress, item:the-wayward-son, item:the-furies, item:persistence, item:death, item:the-centaur, item:origination, item:the-lovers, item:the-enchantress, item:the-boatman, item:the-queen, item:the-fates, item:the-champions, item:divinity. The Boatman is the Charon-thematic add and the Hex-synergy pick; it earns its slot by feeding into the Hex pairing below. Make sure two distinct curse types come online before Origination's Punished band activates; one Hera curse plus one Aphrodite curse is the easiest path on this build.
Keepsake Rotation by Biome
Harmonic Photon at the Crossroads to force Apollo. item:iridescent-fan in Erebus to push toward the Hades Special boon you'll keep all run. Vivid Sea in Oceanus when Poseidon shows up so a Tidal Ring offer becomes likely. Gorgon Amulet in Tartarus for the curse-rarity boost that flips a key boon to Epic. item:engraved-pin for two-room visit pressure when you need a specific god back. item:blackened-fleece in the late biomes to bank Magick into a Hex meter that pairs with Lunar Ray.
Hammer Picks
Giga Cleaver is the build-defining hammer; the dual omega combo lets one channel detonate the same Cast trap multiple times, which is where the 600+ damage figure comes from. Sudden Cleaver is the secondary pick for faster channel speed when you want to shorten the windup window on bosses that punish standing still. Skip lunge-extending hammers like Charging Skewer; they pull you off the Cast and break the loop you spent the run setting up.
Boss-Specific Tips
Chronos phase 1 is the build's weakness. He moves between his three telegraph patterns and refuses to sit on a tether long enough for a full omega-cast charge. Survive the phase by dropping casts as zoning denial, dodging on his slam, and farming a single shockwave per opening rather than trying to chain. Patience here is the run, not damage.
Chronos phase 2 is the payoff. He plants. The build was written for this fight. Drop the Cast under his hitbox, charge, three shockwaves, reset, repeat. Two clean rotations end the encounter.
Polyphemus and Typhon both hold still long enough that Typhon is the build's secondary best matchup after Chronos phase 2. Drop the Cast on Typhon's central body, charge the Omega Special, and let the shockwave stack chew through both halves of his health bar.
Common Mistakes
Skipping Apollo on the first offer because something flashier rolled. Without Lucid Gain the magick economy collapses by biome 3 and the loop dies. The build is Lucid Gain. Take it.
Using the Cast as damage instead of as a tether. The Cast hits for almost nothing on its own. Its job is to mark a foe so the Omega Special detonates. If you find yourself spamming Cast for damage, you're playing a different aspect.
Trying to omega-cast on moving targets. The launcher needs the foe stapled in place. On Eris or Chronos phase 1, switch to standard attacks during their movement windows and only commit the omega-cast when they plant.
Hex Pairing
Lunar Ray pairs cleanly with the launcher. The Hex's wide AoE lands during the omega-cast windup; the item:lunar-ray beam ticks while you're charging, the shockwaves erupt on top of those ticks, and the boss eats both layers in the same window. Bank Magick through Blackened Fleece in late biomes so the Hex is online when Chronos phase 2 starts.
