Expedition 33 Latest Update and Patch Notes (1.5.6)
What 1.5.6 changed, what it means for your build, and every version back to launch.
Where the game stands right now
Expedition 33 is on version 1.5.6, live since June 30, 2026. Four patches shipped in 2026 and not one of them was a balance pass. 1.5.3 brought Photo Mode and Steam Deck polish in March, 1.5.4 put Burn damage back where it belonged three weeks later, the anniversary build 1.5.5 handed out haircuts in April, and 1.5.6 cleaned up three weapon Lumina bugs in June.
Sandfall Interactive's last meta-shaping work was the December 2025 Thank You Update. If you are running an endgame Maelle item:stendhal one-shot, a item:sciel Twilight burst, or a item:monoco Bestial Wheel Spin, nothing in the 2026 chain touches your rotation. The tier lists, Lumina loadouts, and picto synergies that worked in January still work now.
Every version is below, newest first.
1.5.6 (June 30, 2026)
Sixty-seven days after the anniversary patch, the longest gap between drops since launch. Three of its lines land on weapon Lumina behavior.
- Sireso conflict fixed. item:sireso, its Level 4 Lumina, and the Powerful buff could overwrite each other at the start of a battle depending on where your characters stood. All three hold now.
- Cleim's Level 10 Lumina triggers on every instance of an area skill instead of firing inconsistently.
- Martenon's Lumina effects work without needing Sciel to take two turns back to back.
- Burn after stun. Applying Burn to a stunned enemy let it act the moment the stun ended, skipping the rest of the duration. Enemy behavior fix, not a player damage fix.
- Arabic added as a text language, taking the supported total to 20.
- Sound cue restored on Chromatic Lampmaster's area jump attack and on the second charm hit of item:sirene's Widow Ballet. Photo Mode no longer misaligns character heads in combat.
One known issue outlived the patch: crashes when loading into Reacher or leaving the Manor on specific PC configurations. Drop Global Illumination below Epic until Sandfall ships a fix.
What it means for builds. The Sireso line is the only one carrying theorycrafting weight. That Level 4 passive is what pushes item:verso's Perfection bonus onto the rest of the party at half value, and the propagation is the whole engine behind the SIRESO plus MELARUM ceiling. Before the fix, opening positions could silently cancel it. After it, the combo fires the same way every time. Our Sireso and Melarum combo guide walks through the setup.

1.5.5, the anniversary update (April 24, 2026)
One year to the day after launch, free for everyone who owns the game.
- Anniversary haircuts for all six expedition members. item:gustave's sits with the Gestral Merchant near Stone Wave Cliffs; Verso, Maelle, Lune, Sciel, and Monoco collect theirs from the Gestral Merchant near Grosse Tete on the world map.
- The Danseuse outfit no longer darkens the character menu for Lune and Sciel.
- Rest points open normally while in-world dialogue is playing.
- Collision fixes across several locations, plus an achievement text consistency pass.
What it means for builds. Cosmetics and cleanup. No weapon tuning, no new pictos, no attribute changes. Anything you built for 1.5.4 carries straight through.
1.5.4 (April 9, 2026)
A one-line hotfix that mattered far more than its size. 1.5.3 had quietly broken Burn.
- Burn damage calculation restored. Sandfall's wording: "Fixed an issue introduced in the last update where damage from Burn was not properly calculated, resulting in much lower damage than intended."
- Crash fixes and general gameplay performance work.
What it means for builds. Burn ran low for twenty-three days, March 17 to April 9. item:maelle Burn Stack, item:lune Dark Stain, and any Verso loadout carrying item:burning-shots returned to their December numbers the moment this landed, and our Lune Stain rotation guide is written against those numbers. If you tested a Burn build inside that window and walked away unimpressed, test it again.
1.5.3 (March 17, 2026)
A hotfix on top of the Thank You Update. Photo Mode and Steam Deck work.
- Photo Mode crashes on certain camera angles resolved.
- Steam Deck visual improvements in Verso's Drafts, the Endless Tower, and Stone Wave Cliffs, including text contrast at 16:10.
- Soft-lock fixes at Chromatic Glissando and the Gestral Beach volleyball rematch, and missing journals restored on affected saves.
What it means for builds. No new weapons, no new pictos, no new skills, and no balance changes to Maelle, Verso, Monoco, Sciel, Lune, or Gustave. The Burn regression above came out of this build and went unmentioned in its notes, which is the one reason to care about the date.

The Thank You Update (1.5.0) still sets the meta
Every build conversation in 2026 routes back through the Thank You Update, because it is the last patch that moved anything. The additions that still matter:
- Verso's Drafts is the late-game location near Lumiere. New enemies, new boss fights, new pictos drop here.
- 17 new Pictos added. Total picto count rose from 193 to 210. None of the 17 are build-defining the way item:painted-power or item:cheater are; they widen the late-game customization space rather than replacing existing meta pictos.
- Lumina Sets is the 50-slot loadout manager. Save full Lumina configurations per character and swap between encounters without hand-rewiring every slot. The single feature every theorycrafter had on their wish list.
- Balance corrections. Breaking Death now breaks only the enemy that killed the character, which ended the Auto-Death cheese. item:boucharo's crit chance came down from +150% to +50%. Sweet Kill, Teamwork, item:dead-energy-ii, and First Strike lost a hidden +10% damage stat each.
Those four balance lines are why the community ceiling moved off pure Stendhal setups and onto SIRESO S-rank plus MELARUM. See the character tier list and the best builds hub for where every archetype landed.
What the cadence tells you
The 1.5.x chain reads as final polish on the Thank You Update rather than the run-up to a new wave. Patches came every few weeks early in the year and then more than two months apart between 1.5.5 and 1.5.6, and Sandfall's next project sits in early pre-production at a studio of about twenty-six people.
For build planning that means stability. Lock in your Lumina Sets, pick your party, and play. When the next build ID lands on Steam it goes at the top of this page.
