Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Trophy and Achievement Guide

All 56 trophies, the missable list you need to clear in the Prologue, and the Endless Tower platinum path

By BrokenBuilds Wiki17 min readUpdated

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has 56 trophies on PlayStation, mirrored as 55 Steam achievements (Steam carries no Platinum): 1 Platinum, 2 Gold, 5 Silver, and 48 Bronze. None are difficulty-locked, so the full list is earnable on Story Mode. One clean playthrough, the Endless Tower clear, and the Simon kill cover the Platinum. The only thing that breaks a 100% run is the Prologue: a few trophies have to be picked up before Sophie's Gommage closes the Lumière Festival, and skipping any of them locks the run until New Game Plus.

This guide is the roadmap. Clear the missables first, then the main path, then the postgame.

Platinum Roadmap at a Glance

PhaseGoalTrophies Earned
Prologue (Lumière)Complete every missable before Sophie's GommageA Peculiar Encounter, foundations for Connoisseur and Follow the Trail
Acts 1 to 3Story progression, optional zones, relationship 7 with companionsAll location trophies, character relationships, Paintress, Overcharge, Synergy and similar mechanic trophies
Postgame setupEndless Tower, Painting Workshop, Monoco mask farmEndless, Clea, Noir et Blanc, Feet Collection
Final clearDefeat Simon in the AbyssPeace At Last, Platinum

The order matters because some achievements have hard cutoffs at Act boundaries. entity:gustave's Overcharge trophy locks at the end of Act 1. entity:maelle's truth-choice gate triggers in Act 2. The Prologue Mime and the Old Key both close when Sophie's Gommage ends the Festival.

How Many Trophies Are Missable?

Five trophies carry missable conditions, and all of them sit on the Prologue-to-Act-2 timeline. Patch 1.5.0 softened the worst offender by adding a second Old Key to the final area, but the clean path is to satisfy every condition on the first run rather than rely on a New Game Plus mop-up.

A Peculiar Encounter (Bronze)

Defeat the Mime in Lumière during the Prologue. From the stage where children perform, walk east. The Mime stands alone. Fight and defeat it. The trophy fires immediately, and the encounter also drops the Lumière music record that feeds Connoisseur. Once Sophie's Gommage cutscene plays, the Mime is gone for this save.

Miss it and you can still earn the trophy in New Game Plus by defeating the Mime there, then loading your earlier save to keep your progress. Grabbing it on the first run is cleaner.

Old Key and Follow the Trail (Bronze)

Follow the Trail wants all 49 expedition journals. One of them, the Survivor journal, sits behind a locked gate that needs the Old Key. During the Lumière Festival, trade a Festival Token to Colette (the lady in blue) for the key. Skip the trade before Gommage and, on launch-version saves, that journal was gone for the playthrough.

Patch 1.5.0 added a second Old Key in the final area. Fast travel to the Left Street Expedition Flag in Old Lumière, enter the nearby doorway, take the right-hand path to the large broken pipe, and use the key on the locked steel gate to claim the Fracture Survivor journal. The trophy is no longer a hard lock, but the Festival trade is still the path of least resistance.

Connoisseur Records (Bronze)

Connoisseur demands all 33 music records, and two of them are time-sensitive. The Lumière record drops only from the Prologue Mime fight; if you miss it there, you can recover it by fighting the Mime again in the final area and picking up a duplicate copy. The Lettre à Maelle record comes from an optional camp scene: after defeating the first Axon (entity:sirene or entity:visages, whichever you reach first), return to camp and pick "Check up on the others" in the campfire menu. That same scene fires the Curious bronze, so one dialogue choice clears two trophies.

Maelle to Relationship 7 (Bronze)

The Maelle bronze wants relationship level 7, and her gate is dialogue-sensitive. When she asks Gustave a pointed question, choose to tell the truth. Lying caps her relationship and blocks the trophy for the run.

Aiding the Enemy (Bronze)

Aiding the Enemy needs all 10 Nevron quests finished. The quest-giving Nevrons are the friendly, unique variants scattered across the world. Kill one before completing its quest and the trophy is locked for that playthrough. Each quest also requires you to fully exhaust the Nevron's dialogue to collect the reward, so talk to them again after any item hand-off. Save any "kill me" prompt at the end of a Nevron's quest for the final questline, where letting them all live pays out the larger reward.

Secret and Hidden Achievements

On Steam, most of the list ships hidden behind the "Show Secrets" toggle. The pattern is consistent: any trophy tied to a boss kill, a story ending, a relationship payoff, or an optional encounter is masked so the name and description do not spoil the moment. That covers the Axon fights, Sprong, the Serpenphare, the Chromatic Pétank, Clea, the Mime, the late-game milestones (Monolith, Back to Lumière, The End), every relationship-7 trophy, and the endgame pair Peace At Last and The Greatest Expedition in History.

Three of the hidden ones are easy to walk past because they are fully optional world bosses with names that give nothing away: À On (Serpenphare), Sprong, and Carreau Parfait (Chromatic Pétank). None are time-gated, but none are on the critical path either, so they are the usual stragglers on a 99% completion screen. The other classic miss is A Peculiar Encounter, the Prologue Mime kill, which the hidden tag hides until you either land it or read a guide.

Story and Area Trophies

These auto-unlock as the campaign runs. No special action beyond playing through Acts 1 to 3.

Location trophies (10 bronze). Lumière, Spring Meadows, Flying Waters, Ancient Sanctuary, Gestral Village, Esquie's Nest, Stone Wave Cliffs, Forgotten Battlefield, Monoco's Station, and Old Lumière. Each fires the first time you reach the named zone. Spring Meadows is the first one outside the Prologue.

Story milestones. Expedition 33 (unlock all party characters), Legend (recruit Esquie), First Axon, Second Axon, Monolith, Back to Lumière, and The End. The End is one of the two Gold trophies and covers the main story credits roll.

entity:paintress (Silver). The penultimate story boss. Build any of the meta party compositions before the fight.

Stain Pressure Core (Maelle, entity:lune, entity:sciel) handles her cleanly with an opener entity:stendhal cast and Lune fire priming. Triple DPS works if your parries are clean.

Collectible Trophies

Five collectible trophies, two with the missable components handled above.

Follow the Trail (Bronze). Find all 49 expedition journals across the world. The Survivor journal needs the Old Key (Festival trade, or the patch 1.5.0 backup in Old Lumière). Most journals sit in obvious chests inside main-path zones; the rest hide in optional alcoves, post-boss rooms, and the manors of Old Lumière.

Connoisseur (Bronze). Collect all 33 music records. The Lumière record (Mime) and Lettre à Maelle (camp scene) are the time-sensitive ones; the rest stay available until you find them.

Lost Gestrals (Bronze). Find all 9 Lost Gestrals hiding around the world. They turn up in side rooms in zones already on the main path, plus a few in optional regions. None are time-gated.

Gestral Games (Bronze). Win all 5 Gestral minigames in the village.

Paint Cage (Bronze). Break a Paint Cage. You will hit one in normal exploration long before the trophy matters.

Character Relationship Trophies

Reach relationship level 7 with each of Sciel, Monoco, Maelle, Lune, and Esquie. Five bronzes.

Relationship growth comes from optional camp dialogue and from companion-specific conversations after major story beats. Esquie's grows from exploring with him as a vehicle. Monoco's grows from running him in the active party. Sciel and Lune each have campfire dialogue chains to clear. Maelle is the missable-tagged one: tell the truth at her gate.

The path is simple. Spend time at camp between main-path bosses, exhaust every dialogue option, and run each character in the active party for a stretch of the game.

Combat and Mechanic Trophies

Ten trophies test specific combat patterns. Some are free, some need a deliberate setup.

TrophyCharacterSetup
OverchargeGustaveBuild to 10 charges via entity:lumiere-assault and basic attacks, cast entity:overcharge to Break an enemy. Act 1 only
SynergyMaelleCast entity:percee on a Marked enemy while in Virtuose Stance
Perfect FlowLuneConsume Stains for four consecutive turns
MaximisationScielConsume 20 Foretell on a single target during Twilight
Perfectionentity:versoReach Rank S in a single battle
Wheel ControlMonocoCast an Upgraded Skill four turns in a row
LuminaAnySpend a Lumina point. Trivial
Time to Spill Some InkAnyBreak any enemy. Trivial
Chroma ProficiencyAnyUse a level 3 Gradient Attack
ProfessionalAnyDefeat a boss without taking any damage

Professional is the hardest of the set, and it is the one that trips people who assume it is missable. It is not. Any boss works and you can retry forever. The cleanest target is an early Act 1 boss: equip parry-focused pictos, run a single character into the fight, and parry every attack. Solo Maelle with item:second-chance as a safety net is the standard recommendation.

Optional and World Boss Trophies

Three optional overworld fights each grant a bronze and sit entirely off the main path, which is why they are the most common late stragglers.

À On (Bronze). Defeat the Serpenphare, a roaming world boss. No story flag gates it; you just have to find and beat it.

Sprong (Bronze). Defeat Sprong, another optional overworld enemy.

Carreau Parfait (Bronze). Defeat the Chromatic Pétank. This one demands a tuned party rather than a clever trick.

Two more optional kills carry heavier rewards and are covered in the postgame section: Clea in the Flying Manor (Silver) and Simon in the Abyss (Gold).

Level Trophies

  • Expeditioner (Bronze). Reach level 33.
  • Trailbreaker (Bronze). Reach level 66.
  • Survivor (Bronze). Reach level 99.

Survivor is the grind. By the time the Endless Tower opens you should be in the high 70s or low 80s. The Tower feeds enough XP to push from 80 to 99 inside the postgame loop, and its higher floors need that level scaling anyway.

Weapon and System Trophies

Weapon Upgrade (Bronze). Upgrade any weapon once. Trivial as soon as Reflective Chroma starts dropping.

Weapon Mastery (Bronze). Fully upgrade any weapon to level 33. Needs heavy Chroma and Wandering Lights. Most builds run their main DPS weapon to 33 by mid-Act-3 anyway.

Plane, Train, and Submarine (Bronze). Discover all of Esquie's traversal abilities. Story-progressed; the trophy fires when the last form unlocks.

The Endless Tower and Postgame Silvers

The Endless Tower opens after the main story. Four of the five Silver trophies feed off the postgame loop.

Endless (Silver). Reach the top floor of the Endless Tower. The Tower scales hard, so a maxed weapon, item:painted-power, and a tuned party are all in scope.

entity:clea (Silver). Defeat Clea, the secret superboss of the Flying Manor, reachable only in Act 3 once Esquie can fly. Clear the manor's four trials (the empowered entity:dualliste, entity:lampmaster, the entity:eveque trio, and entity:goblu), unpaint the four Nevron statues, and the door behind the boy opens to her fight.

Noir et Blanc (Silver). Solve the Painting Workshop mystery. It spans three locations, and resolving it triggers a Lampmaster encounter; the trophy unlocks on the kill.

Feet Collection (Silver). Acquire all 45 of entity:monoco's skills. Monoco learns skills by defeating specific Nevrons, marked in combat by a foot icon. Several live in optional zones and inside the Endless Tower.

Aiding the Enemy (Bronze). Finish all 10 Nevron quests. The chain runs from mid-Act-1 through postgame. Watch the missable note above.

The Final Boss and the Platinum

Peace At Last (Gold). Defeat entity:simon in the Abyss, the post-Endless secret boss and the true endpoint of the run. Build for raw single-target damage: item:painted-power on, item:augmented-first-strike active, Solo Maelle with a Stendhal opener, or Stain Pressure Core if you want party utility for Simon's adds phase.

The Greatest Expedition in History (Platinum). Awards on the 55th non-Platinum trophy. Average completion across thorough runs is 60 to 80 hours, and the missable checklist is what costs people the 100% more than any boss. Clear the Prologue cleanly, run the main story, build out the Endless Tower, and finish on Simon.

100% Completion Checklist

Run this order and nothing locks behind you:

  • Prologue: beat the Mime, trade for the Old Key, and exhaust the Festival before Sophie's Gommage.
  • Act 1: pick truth at Maelle's gate, learn Gustave's Overcharge Break before the act ends, and visit the first camp scene after Axon one for the Lettre à Maelle record and Curious.
  • Acts 2 to 3: clear every named zone, grab all 49 journals and 33 records, find the 9 Lost Gestrals, push every relationship to 7, and finish each Nevron quest without killing the quest-giver early.
  • Optional bosses: clear À On, Sprong, and Carreau Parfait while you roam.
  • Postgame: top the Endless Tower, beat Clea in the Flying Manor, solve the Painting Workshop for Noir et Blanc, finish Monoco's 45 skills, grind to level 99, then end on Simon for the Platinum.
